Home Design Showcase: Bathroom Design Options
One of the most exciting parts of building a new home in Florida with Highland Homes is working with a professional designer at the Highland Homes Personal Selection Studio to select the features and finishes that will turn a house into your personalized dream home!
In today’s Home Design Showcase, we talk about bathroom design options, from flooring to lighting and storage solutions to spa-inspired bathroom design.
Bathroom Cabinets and Storage
Cabinets are one of your first bathroom design selections because of the large role they play in overall interior design – after all, cabinets are not only for storage but also a built-in furnishing that lays the foundation for the overall look of your bathroom.
The Highland Homes design studio offers many cabinet styles and colors to choose from including:
- Colored cabinets in white, grey, and blue finishes;
- Birch wood cabinets in light brown, light grey-brown, medium grey-brown, warm medium brown, warm dark brown, and rich espresso brown stains;
- Maple wood cabinets in light grey-brown, medium grey-brown, warm dark brown, and rich espresso brown stains.
Typically, the same cabinets that you select for your kitchen will go in your bathrooms, but if you opt for upgraded kitchen cabinets, you have the option to select the same or different cabinets for the bathrooms.
In your owner’s bath, the vanity cabinets are 36 inches tall, providing advantages including additional storage space, a more comfortable and accessible height for adults, and elevated aesthetics. In secondary baths, the bathroom vanity cabinets are 30 inches tall, which is a typical vanity height and a good height for children. Depending on the home plan you choose to build, the bathroom vanity may have knee space or a drawer stack; you can add a drawer stack instead of knee space if that is your preference!
Mirrored medicine cabinets are also included in our bathrooms, for convenient storage of toiletries and personal items.
Bathroom Countertops
Countertops are one of the most-used surfaces in your home. Learn more about available bathroom countertop options by reading our articles on:
- Wilsonart Laminate Countertops, included standard in the bathrooms of our Florida new homes, with overmount (self-rimming) sinks;
- Granite and Quartz Countertops, available to select for upgraded luxury in your bathrooms, with undermount oval or rectangular sinks.
Flooring
One of today’s hottest flooring products, luxury vinyl plank flooring, or LVP flooring, is a low-maintenance, water-resistant, durable, attractive flooring product available in a wide range of colors and styles to suit your personal preferences - and we include it in our Florida new homes! Learn more about luxury vinyl plank flooring options offered by Highland Homes.
You may also choose ceramic floor tile for your bathrooms. Our floor tiles are available with coordinating wall tile options for an elegant bathroom style. Which brings us to our next bathroom selection…
Bathroom Wall Tile
We’ve all seen it – a cheap, plain, uninspired plastic shower insert. You deserve better, which is every new home we build includes ceramic wall tile for the shower and bathtub surrounds. Wall tile is a huge improvement, adding style, durability, longevity, and resale value to your home - Learn more about bathroom wall tile options when you build with Highland Homes.
Bathtubs and Showers
The bathrooms in our Florida new homes are each uniquely designed based on the space available, as well as the prospective users of the room. This means the primary, or owner’s baths, and secondary baths feature different styles of showers and bathtubs.
Secondary Bathrooms
Secondary bathrooms typically include a tub/shower combo – this is a bathtub with a shower head, where you can either bathe or shower. You can install a rod with a shower curtain, or we offer the option for sliding glass bathtub doors in chrome, brushed nickel, or black.
Whether for accessibility or your personal preference, many of our Florida new home plans offer an option for a tiled, walk-in shower instead of the tub/shower combo.
Owner’s Baths
The en-suite owner’s baths in our Florida new homes are designed with various configurations. All our owner's baths include a tiled shower with a glass, swing door enclosure, available in chrome, brushed nickel, or black. Owner’s bathrooms may also include, or have an option to add:
- A garden tub, which is a wide and deep built-in soaking tub installed against a wall or corner;
- A freestanding tub, which sits on the bathroom floor, exposed on all four sides, providing a chic and luxurious look and a deep basin for soaking;
- A Jacuzzi jetted tub, providing the ultimate spa experience.
In-Law Suite Bathrooms
Though an in-law or secondary suite may be used for someone of any age, in most multi-generational homes, it’s used by an adult so these suites usually include a tiled shower with a glass, swing door enclosure.
Bathroom Faucets, Showerheads, and Accessories
These are the details that complete your bathroom design, and whether you prefer classic elegance or modern design, we have fixtures that suit your needs.
We include faucets, showerheads, tub spouts, and controls from the Delta Woodhurst bath collection in a classic chrome finish (select communities include a stainless steel finish in the owner’s bath). This refined style adds classic elegance, and Delta WaterSense® faucets and showers use at least 20% less water than the industry standard.
Options are also available to upgrade to:
- Delta Woodhurst fixtures in stainless steel or Venetian bronze;
- The Delta Ashlyn bath collection, featuring modern angular lines, in stainless steel or matte black;
- The Delta Kayra bath collection, a smooth design with unbroken lines, in stainless steel or matte black.
Your bathroom is completed with bath accessories – depending on the bathroom you will get a toilet paper holder, towel bar(s), and/or towel ring(s), in a chrome finish – upgrade to a brushed or black finish to match your faucets!
Bathroom Lighting
Light fixtures are not only for illumination but also style, and lighting choices can enhance the entire look of a bathroom!
Our bathrooms come with a modern-styled three-light vanity fixture over each sink, in either a chrome or nickel finish, with etched glass shades. If this does not suit the bathroom style you are going for, choose from upgraded bathroom vanity light fixtures in styles from minimalistic to vintage, industrial, and rustic, and finishes including brushed nickel, burnt sienna, oil-rubbed bronze, and black.
Bathroom Design Trends and Considerations
One of the biggest bathroom design trends we are seeing in 2025 is the bold look of black faucets and accessories! Black is adaptable to many styles and instantly adds a unique visual interest to your home.
To give your bathroom a cohesive, polished look, our designers suggest that all the metal objects in your bathroom be the same color – this means your sink faucets, tub and shower faucets, shower enclosure, bath accessories, light fixtures, and cabinet hardware should all be selected in the same finish.
