At the Highland Homes design studio, a professional designer will guide you through the design process and help you choose options to bring your dream home vision to life.
One of the options you will choose is the interior and exterior paint colors for your new home. We trust Sherwin-Williams Paint because of their more than 145 years of experience and continued research, development, and innovation of quality paint products. They are known to have long-lasting paints that will stand the test of time while providing a beautiful aesthetic – not to mention, one of the widest selections of colors in the paint industry.
Let’s take a look at the exterior and interior paint options you have when you build with Highland Homes.
Sherwin-Williams Interior Paint
Benefits of Sherwin-Williams Interior Paint
Sherwin-Williams' industry experience and product innovation make them one of the most trusted paint brands. Some of the main benefits of Sherwin-Williams paint include:
- Health – Low VOC and Zero VOC paints provide health benefits both for you and for the environment. By containing fewer harmful chemicals, they produce less odor, air pollutants, and allergy-causing toxins, improving your indoor air quality.
- Ease – With outstanding coverage and color pigmentation, you’ll appreciate a beautiful finish that’s easy to clean and touch up. And it’s easy to get touch-up paint when needed, with Sherwin-Williams paint stores located all over Florida, or orderable online.
- Quality – Sherwin-Williams uses high-quality prime pigments, binders, and additives, which provide superior coverage and a long-lasting finish.
- Selection – Sherwin-Williams offers over 1,700 interior paint colors, along with carefully curated color collections that can help you coordinate color across your space. For those who like to stay on the cutting edge of interior design, their Color of the Year and Colormix Forecasts help you bring trending colors into your home.
Interior Paint Colors and Options
Different paints provide different benefits. In our Florida new homes, we include Sherwin-Williams’ ProMar 400 Zero VOC Interior Latex Paint. This high-quality paint meets the most stringent VOC requirements and delivers good hide and touch-up with easy application. You’ll find a flat finish throughout most of your home, with a semi-gloss sheen in bathrooms.
Four interior paint color choices are included, all part of Sherwin-Williams’ Top 50 Colors Collection, and come paired with a white ceiling and trim work:
- Accessible Beige (SW 7036) – A warm beige with cool undertones of gray.
- Agreeable Gray (SW 7029) – An on-trend greige, or gray with beige undertones exuding a subtle warmth.
- Repose Gray (SW 7015) – This lighter gray adds tranquility, with just a hint of warm undertones.
- Origami White (SW 7636) – Far from stark, this creamy white has a delicate touch of color with cool violet undertones.
To add more color to your space, you can choose to paint the entire house, a room, or an accent wall in a Sherwin-Williams color of your choice, for a small upcharge. And you don’t have to pick just one – choose different paint colors to match the décor or style of each room.
You can also choose to upgrade to Sherwin-Williams Cashmere Interior Acrylic Latex Paint. This washable paint is popular for families with children – or anyone who desires a scrubbable surface for easy maintenance. Cashmere is a low VOC paint and primer in one and provides a silky, rich finish, with outstanding coverage and hide.
Tips for Selecting Interior Paint Colors
At the Highland Homes Personal Selection Studio, interior paint is selected after you choose the main design items such as your cabinets, countertops, and flooring. This is important so your paint color works with the other finishes in your home. Don’t worry; our professional designers will guide you through selecting paint that compliments these finishes as well as your style.
Other things to consider when choosing paint colors are the:
- Room size – Light colors generally make a room feel more open while dark colors provide a cozy, intimate feel. An accent wall is a great way to add a pop of dark or dramatic color to a smaller room.
- Room use – Set the mood by using color psychology! For example, blues and greens are known as calming hues, making them an ideal choice in bedrooms, bathrooms, or anywhere you want to create calming energy. Bright warm colors like red and yellow are energetic and better suited to social areas. Neutral gray and beige tones, meanwhile, work just about anywhere.
- Flow – A great way to use different colors in different rooms but keep a cohesive look is to choose shades from a curated color palette, transitioning between rooms with lighter or darker tones from the same color family.
- Furniture and decor – If you already have the perfect sofa, favorite rug, or one-of-a-kind artwork, use these as a reference for choosing complimentary paint colors. If you plan on new furnishings and artwork, you can play it safe by painting with neutral colors or opt to express your personality with paint and later select the furniture and artwork to compliment it.

Sherwin-Williams Exterior Paint
Sherwin-Williams exterior paints provide long-lasting performance against the elements and resist fading and peeling.
Exterior Paint Colors and Options
To take the guesswork out of exterior color combinations, we’ve put together 17 exterior color palettes perfectly pairing four color elements:
- Body – The main exterior color for your home, and also the color for your garage door.
- Trim – Finishes the trim work around windows and the garage door, as well as decorative trim bands and accents. You may also choose to paint your garage door the trim color, for a small upcharge.
- Front door – A contrasting door color adds curb appeal and creates an inviting entrance.
- Accent - Available on select home plans that have shake or vinyl siding, the accent color makes this design element stand out with a two-tone or contrasting hue.
We typically save exterior selections for the end of your design appointment because many homebuyers coordinate the exterior look with their interior design selections.
Additional Options for Exterior Curb Appeal
Once you choose your exterior paint, you’ll wrap up by selecting exterior accents and details:
-
- Shingles - We offer three colors that perfectly pair with our exterior color schemes - Weathered Wood, Hearthstone Gray, and Shadow Black.
- Stone accents – Included on select homes, at the design center you will preview and select from three unique stone styles and five colorways, elevating your curb appeal.
- Shutters – included on select homes, choose from two different types of shutters to add to your overall curb appeal:
- Z shutters are painted the same color as your front door;
- Board and batten shutters are pre-painted in seven different colors. For the best overall effect, choose shutters that contrast your body color, and coordinate with your trim or front door.
- Exterior lighting and electrical options
- Optional glass entry doors and door hardware
